    “Makoto Shinkai Exhibition – Voices of a Distant Star to Your Name” Shanghai, China

    This exhibition celebrates the fifteenth anniversary of Makoto Shinkai’s debut, and uses storyboards, concept art, animation, background art, and video primarily from his six most well-regarded works, as well as molded objects that help to convey his worlds, to help express the beauty and wonder of the animation of Makoto Shinkai. Following the example of the Japanese exhibition, the venue incorporates exhibits unique to the Shanghai venue.

    This exhibition celebrates the fifteenth anniversary of Makoto Shinkai’s debut, and uses storyboards, concept art, animation, background art, and video primarily from his six most well-regarded works, as well as molded objects that help to convey his worlds, to help express the beauty and wonder of the animation of Makoto Shinkai. Following the example of the Japanese and Taiwanese exhibitions, the venue incorporates exhibits unique to the Korean venue to create an exhibition that draws the visitor into the world of the works.

    This exhibition celebrates the fifteenth anniversary of Makoto Shinkai’s debut, and uses storyboards, concept art, animation, background art, and video from his one-man animation “Voices From a Distant Star” through his latest masterpiece, “Your Name,” as well as molded objects that help to convey his worlds, to help express the beauty and wonder of the animation of Makoto Shinkai. This exhibition will integrate three-dimensional art that will help to draw the visitor into the world of the works.

    The exhibit that has been traveling China since its opening in Beijing in 2015 is moving to its 10th location, after Chengdu. The exhibit will focus on Director Shinkai’s features, “The Place Promised in Our Early Days,” “Five Centimeters Per Second,” “The Children Who Chase Lost Voices,” and “In the Garden of Words.” It will provide an introduction of each piece, along with posters from their theatrical openings, storyboards, character designs, animation (copies of layouts and keyframes), and other artifacts of the animation process. The exhibit will also contain an audience interaction corner, featuring backgrounds from the movies and photo spots. A making-of video will be screened as well. A special QR code will also be available to visitors to receive unique character icons.
